Community Involvement

Heavily invested in the Kansas City community for over 15 years...

I was on the board of Sunflowers to Roses, a Kansas City-based cancer charity cycling event, from 2001 to 2009. The organization aims to raise money for cancer research and awareness through an annual bike race. While I no longer serve on the board, I have continued to volunteer every year since 2010.

I have also been on the planning board for the inaugural Tour de BBQ bike tour, which benefits the KU Cancer Center. In addition, I am a long-time supporter of Impact KC, another community-support organization that makes grants to community organizers.

I am also an annual financial supporter of Operation Breakthrough, as well as Harvesters BackPack snack programs.

Sunflowers to Roses

The Sunflowers to Roses organization was created by a group of professional peers and friends who wanted to honor the memory of Chris Anthony and Jack Lockton – both lost their battles to cancer. During their battle, both men were inspired to Live Strong by Lance Armstrong’s triumph over cancer and his subsequent Tour de France victories. Sunflowers to Roses raises money and awareness to fight cancer and promotes cycling as a safe recreational family activity. Learn more.

Tour de BBQ

The Tour de BBQ was established in 2009 by a group of young professionals to raise money to fight cancer in the Kansas City Metropolitan area and is organized by a 100% volunteer board. We have no employees and pay no salaries. The work put in by our members is a pure dedication of their time and talents in working to find a cure for cancer. Since its inception in 2009, the Tour de BBQ has donated nearly $400,000 to fight cancer. Learn more.

Impact KC

Impact KC is a group of philanthropic and civic-minded individuals dedicated to making a substantive impact to the well-being of the Kansas City metropolitan area by leveraging the strength and power of a team beyond just the sum of the individuals. Learn more.

Operation Breakthrough

Operation Breakthrough is the largest single-site early education child care and social services facility in the state of Missouri serving over 400 children daily from the urban core. Learn more.

Harvesters’ Backpack Program

Harvesters’ BackSnack program provides a weekly backpack filled with nutritious, child-friendly food for schoolchildren to take home over the weekend. More than 100,000 children in Harvesters’ service area receive free and reduced-price school meals during the week, and many of those are at risk of hunger on weekends. Learn more.
